Strong Women, Strong Girls

Strong Women, Strong Girls (SWSG) provides MDC students with part-time AmeriCorps national service positions. SWSG helps recruit, train, and support these women to serve as mentors to girls in grades 3-5.

The college women implement a project-based learning and skill-building curriculum that provides the elementary school girls with opportunities to develop positive self-efficacy, gain access to enrichment experiences, and study contemporary and historic female role models.

Each of the college students selected for SWSG receive an AmeriCorps stipend and an AmeriCorps Education Award (a combined value of approximately $3000 per student). Miami Dade College uses the SWSG grant funds to support program implementation including program supplies, postage, photocopying, food, recognition, and field trips.
